Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening is a procedure designed to lighten the colour of your teeth. When done correctly, whitening does not harm the teeth or gums. Significant lightening is achieved in the majority of cases, but like any other procedure there are certain limitations. These are seldom serious enough to discourage patients from undergoing whitening procedures but include variables such as the type of discolouration affecting your teeth, degree to which you follow Prime Dental’s whitening instruction and the overall condition of your teeth. Nevertheless, whitening represents a large portion of cosmetic dental treatments that is a safe, easy and effective way to lighten your teeth by up to 8 shades and walk out with a brighter, whiter smile.

Here at Prime Dental we like to cater for everyone, which is why we offer two types of whitening procedures. In-chair whitening which is complete at our practice in a single visit and a specialist take-home whitening kit which is cheaper and you can complete in the comfort of your own home, in your own time, over the course of around two weeks.

ZOOM2 Whitening

ZOOM2 whitening represents the forefront of whitening technology. A breakthrough whitening system, ZOOM2 has been clinically proven to safely whiten your teeth in approximately 1 ½ hours which we complete in a single visit.

Prior to undergoing ZOOM2 treatment your experienced dentist will assess your oral state to assess that you are a candidate for the procedure to ensure your maximum results.

Results for ZOOM2 vary for each individual, as the colour of our teeth varies. After being determined as a suitable candidate we will whiten your teeth in 1 ½ hours so you walk out with a whiter smile.

All teeth have a protective layer called acquired pellicle. This layer contains surface stains and is removed during your procedure. It takes the oral environment 24 hours to regenerate this barrier. During this period we ask that you do not smoke or consume coloured foods for example: coffee, tea, soft drinks, red wine, in order to minimize shade relapse.

A white, clear food diet is recommended for the first 24 hours. Suitable foods include:

Milk, water, tonic water, bananas, apples & pears (no peel), cauliflower, plain or vanilla yoghurt, white cheese, cottage cheese, egg whites, sour cream, white bread, flour tortillas, saltine crackers, skinless chicken breast, turkey, white fish, pork loin or chops.

Patients may experience a slight change in the shade of your teeth within the first 24 – 48 hours after treatment due to the reformation of the saliva coating. Normal food and drink consumption may cause a slight regression of shade.

Here at Prime Dental we recommend that you use Tooth Mousse after your procedure. The Mousse helps regenerate the acquired pellicle and may help with any sensitivity or gum irritation experienced. Mousse is provided in your take home pack as well as a whitening pen.

Take Home Whitening Kit

This process, involves wearing a custom made bleaching tray, which looks like a thin transparent night guard, filled with a gentle bleaching gel. You need to wear the bleach-filled tray for a specified number of hours per day or evening for approximately 2-4 weeks. We check your bleaching progress once a week during the period you are using the bleaching gel. The results depend on your consistent use of the bleach.

Almost anyone is a candidate for bleaching. However, people with dark yellow or yellowish-brown teeth tend to bleach better than people with grey or bluish-grey teeth. Multi-coloured teeth, especially if stained due to tetracycline, do not bleach very well. In addition, teeth with many fillings, cavities, chips etc, are usually best treated by bonding, porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns.

Some patients may experience some sensitivity or gum irritation through the bleaching which can easily be addressed, simply inform your dentist or hygienist.

If you want a brighter, whiter smile in an effect, easy to achieve way contact our friendly team to arrange a consultation and discuss your whitening options.
