Maintenance

Our prime motivation is for you to keep your natural smile for life, and to maintain any dental work we do for you.

At your continuing care appointment your hygienist will continually monitor the condition of the gums and supporting structures of the teeth.

She may:
  1. remove calculus and stains that build up on your teeth

  2. use topical fluoride

Fluoride has a long history in preventing and inhibiting decay.
It is an important ingredient of good toothpaste and our drinking water.
Its application provides a powerful booster in cavity prevention and control.
    It should be used for:

           - children and adults with heavily filled teeth
           - adults with gum recession
           - people undergoing orthodontic treatment
           - people with low saliva flow

  3. Diet counselling to control sugar intake

  4. Saliva testing to determine the quantity and quality of saliva, especially prior to extensive treatment

  5. Apply fissure sealants to deep grooves and pits that can naturally form in teeth. These areas can be almost impossible to clean and will become serious sites of decay.

  6. Reinforce hygiene techniques.
